What we do

KINESIOLOGY - what it is

Kinesiology is a "verification tool". It originates from the root words "kinein" meaning "to move" and "aisthesis" meaning "perception". Kinesiology originated in the 1960's through the work of a chiropractor, Dr George Goodheart, whose aim it was to enhance and improve the quality of his work.

It is the philosophy of Kinesiology that we are created perfectly for what it is we are to achieve in life. However, sometimes and for various reasons, we find ourselves in distress. This is our body's way of indicating that we are "off track" and an area, or areas, of our life are in need of attention. Put differently, we present with dis-ease symptoms and this is the messenger our body uses to focus our attention on the fact that we are not living life to our full potential.

KINESIOLOGY - how it works

Kinesiology uses the scientific knowledge of the functioning of the muscles of the body and the Central Nervous system to identify areas of blockage and imbalance. What does this mean for you? It means that a suitably qualified and trained kinesiology facilitator can identify, specific to you what has caused an imbalance, and why, and then to apply appropriate techniques to restore balance and harmony. Once back on track, we can continue living with a better quality of life.

KINESIOLOGY - who is it for?

Anybody and everybody! It is that simple. We have all experienced times where we were not in top form. This applies equally to physical, emotional and mental conditions. We know that it has been at those times that we most wanted help - and quickly!

Kinesiology is an extremely gentle, non-invasive method of identifying what is going on, and why, and then applying suitable techniques to restore that sense of well-being we are longing for.

Remember, the symptom is NOT the problem! Symptoms are merely "messengers", the body communicating that there are imbalances present. Are you experiencing any of these "messengers" listed below? Or perhaps others?

  • Headaches
  • Depression
  • Learning difficulties
  • Neck and/or back pain
  • Insomnia
  • Low blood sugar
  • Allergies
  • Sinusitis
  • Relationship difficulties
  • General malaise
  • Low self-esteem
  • Phobias or Addictions
  • Repeated infections
  • Skin problems
  • Digestive disorders
  • Fatigue Symptoms
  • Constipation
  • Menstrual disorders
KINESIOLOGY - what it can do for you

Let us start with what Kinesiology and Kinesiologists do not do. We do NOT

  • heal! - only your body can do that (just as it heals a broken bone or a cut!)
  • diagnose or treat! - we acknowledge the symptom/s you present with, and work towards solutions
  • work with illness! - we believe that we can assist in improving your quality of life and so "re-educate" your body and yourself
  • interfere with your faith or religious beliefs! - we are trained to work within the realm of your belief system to best assist in finding solutions to improve your well being
  • make predictions

We DO, however, promise you the following :

  • more energy
  • greater understanding of yourself
  • choices where none seemed to exist before
  • acceptance and understanding
  • solution orientation
  • more appropriate and increased functioning ability
  • an improved quality of life!
ASKSA:KZN identifies itself and its functioning largely in accordance with the International Association of Specialised Kinesiologists (IASK) and thus their definition of Kinesiology which is :

"Kinesiology is the science of assessing the energetic systems of a person for balanced function, by using the change of physiological response through the muscular system as feedback. Using this same feedback, Kinesiology identifies any non-invasive treatment strategy to primarily affect and balance the energetic systems of a person for the purpose of promoting, restoring and maintaining health"

IASK further defines "Specialised Kinesiology" in the following way :

"Specialised Kinesiology (SK) is a term used to describe the collective activity of all the different types and models of Kinesiology that arise from the diverse application of Kinesiology (muscle testing). SK is any type of Kinesiology that is accredited and recognised according to the categories created by IASK"

In the spirit of the above, ASKSA : KZN has always encouraged diversity in the training of practitioners/facilitators and given equal regard to the different branches of Kinesiology available in our country and those accepted by IASK. The current definition of Kinesiology of ASKSA is as follows :

"Kinesiology is an integrative, empowering, bio-energetic set of protocols, utilising muscle testing/monitoring to identify priority energy imbalances in order to facilitate homeostasis."

The brain holds many mysteries and questions - and always has done. Theories are developed and continue to change as new information about its workings is made known. Kinesiology has discovered more than can be currently explained by present day theories and this spirit of discovery and acknowledgement of the wonders of the functioning of the human being is what motivates us to accept that each being is unique and special and holds within both the questions and the answers to improve the quality of life. We have been given a wonderful tool in the form of muscle monitoring to access these and this is the world of those of us who are members of ASKSA:KZN.
